It’s Official…

The results are up, and Taylor finished 14th on the “supposed to be dry but not for the top 4″ skidpad, and Lier finished thirty-fifth.

The final margin of victory for the Cannonball GTR was 205 points over the Lier/Stewart GT2.

Catesby climbed to third overall with his run on the skid pad, giving car-owner Peter Lier two cars on the podium.

Cannonball GTR Takes The Win

burnout_small

After much of the field was able to run in the dry, Will Taylor beat Peter Lier in misty wet conditions in the skid pad high-g contest today to finish the 2009 Tire Rack One Lap of America first place.

Once Peter Lier went out and finished thirty-fourth, all Taylor had to do was finish the skid pad run to win.

Taylor knew the rain was coming, so he didn’t have high expectations.

” We were still trying to go for a good time, but within the first hundred feet I knew there was a severe lack of traction,” Taylor said.

When asked what he thought about his first Tire Rack One Lap of America, he said, “I think I will know what I think in two days when it all finally sits in.

We loaded up the car in about 2 minutes and the first thought was, ‘where do we go next, oh, wait we don’t go anywhere next.’ - We are still in running mode.”

Dan Corcoran finished first overall on the skidpad.

The official Results will be out a little later, but the call from the anouncer was that Lier had run a 0.84g and Taylor ran a 0.94g

With all but one event completed in the 2009 Tire Rack One Lap of America The Cannonball GTR team leads overall with a 100 point lead.

Will Taylor will be driving the skidpad, and all he has to do is finish 20th or better to clinch the win in the event.

Today at BeaveRun Rankins piloted the car to a pair of second-place finishes to Ian Stewart, taking the safe road (but not too safe) to make sure the car didn’t break.

“I only wanted to give five points to Ian, so I was still pushing a little hard,” Rankins said.

Unoffical top times:

1) Stewart
2) Rankins
3) Corcoran
4) Catesby
5) Tony

Picture Time..

Finally got a chance to go through some of the pictures, figured people might like a couple while we wait for morning results..

Steven Rankins at the wheel of the GTR in the wet morning session at CMP - Rankins would win the event and gain valuable points on Stewart - who finished third.

Ian Stewart kept a tight line to save some distance but it wasn't enough to catch Rankins for the day.

Friday Morning - BeaveRun

Sorry to have been away for a few hours - I decided to go to BeaveRun with the event.

Updates: Stewart ended up 19th at the BMW performance center, Rankins won.

For the final three events, Rankins/Taylor need to finish 8th or better to clinch.

After the first run at BeaveRun, it looks like Stewart won, with Rankins driving to a “safe” second place. If that stands officially, then Rankins/Taylor will only need to finish 11th or better in the last two events.

Regarding Stewart’s cone-count yesterday, he said, “I could have slowed down and done it the safe way - but that’s not racing.”

BMW Performance Center Update

Results are not out, but the call from the track has Ian Stewart hitting two cones, and Rankins and Tony fighting it out for first.

Cones at BMW count 10-seconds each, so Ian will take a 20-second penalty. We don’t know where that puts him yet, but it will hurt his eforts for a win for sure.

While you’re waiting…

Just a reminder - Motor Trend Magazine is doing one heck of a job covering the event, and has stories that I am not getting to cover - so between updates to us, visit Motor Trend’s Tire Rack One Lap of America Coverage.

Motor Trend also has a YouTube channel with videos and interviews - so you can visit the Motor Trend YouTube Channel for their latest videos.

Everyone on the Cannonball GTR team welcomes Motor Trend Magazine to their first Tire Rack One Lap of America and we hope to see them back as “Lap Dogs” next year.

Post CMP Report

The guys just got off the exit in Greer for the BMW Performance Center time trial, so hopefully we will know stuff from there soon.

Also,  the morning runs were officially announced, and Stewart was third and not fourth, so that was a 10-point pickup for the Cannonball GTR over Stewart and Lier in the Porsche GT2.

The Afternoon times are also up, and the finishing order is as it stands.

As of now, the Cannonball GTR team has a 20-point overall lead over the Porsche GT2 Team.

Stay tuned for results from BMW, data, and hopefully video (which the track internet was too slow to let me upload)
